Discuss how a physical disability, health impairment, or low incidence disability may affect school performance

Research the following topic: Autism and describe the characteristics of students with the identified disability,  identify current research-based inclusive practices and the role of teachers in making adaptations in the classroom setting. Once you set up the definitions and describe characteristics, your project should demonstrate how you (as the general education teacher) achieve these objectives in the classroom.

Your presentation must also include:

1. The identification process/qualify for special education services (include any laws that apply).

2.  What specific classroom-based differentiations would you use in working with a student with the disability?

3. How would you adapt your lesson in mathematics, reading and writing for this student?

4.  What are the assistive technology devices to help enhance learning experiences in the general education classroom?

Grading Rubric

Based on a 100% measurement system

  1. 50% – Presentation of concepts, definitions and theory from the textbook/resourcesInformation in this section must be discussed orally in your presentation and typed on slides: Topic is identified and defined; law(s) that apply; identification process; inclusive educational practices; instructional strategies; assistive technology.
  2. 30% – Presentation Creativity of presentation to include color, graphics, video and/or pictures. Presenter is audible, understandable, and has good pacing.  The presentation should be approximately 10 minutes in length.
  3. 20% – MechanicsAdherence to formatting and correct grammar, including APA citations and reference page.  All information that is included in the presentation must be referenced on each slide (this includes pictures from the internet)
